Ed notes: A client of mine is running into the usual trouble with MSOffice. Some of her associates and contractors are emailing her MS Word 2000 documents, which her machine (Win95, Word 7) cannot read. This piece is in search of a simple sellable solution, and for her to point the culrprits to so they may understand. Once cleaned up, it will be posted somewhere a little more permanent. Comments are wanted, fairly desparatly, but I must emphasize, the target for this piece is computer users.
Avoid Lock-in, Don't Distribute word processor [MS Word] documents
A common problem today, and for the last ten years or so, is the distribution of computer word processor documents. For business, it is vital that memos, letters, and other documentation be distributed quickly to large groups of people, and that they be able to read those documents. For home users, it can simply be terribly frustrating to receive an expected file and be unable to read a word of it.
