My response was in fairly good taste considering:

Hi,

I am trying to foster good relations and communication between tech and dev and your 
response made me so angry I could spit. The remainder of this discussion, however 
fruitless, will have to wait until I have calmed down a bit.

I'd probably have just silently reported them to a higher authority and had them deal with the idjit.

Available higher authorities already know this guy is a jerk, and one of them is one too and likes him, so ... I mentioned it to my manager, fwiw.

And today we're exchanging mails about the problems ... but I have little hope of anything improving. Of course that's generally true of me.
