So, the bad dream this morning was of a professor who got personally insulting in class because he thought I was bullshitting him when I wrote "causality is a fallacy" in some paper. I suspect he didn't know what the words meant.

We went up to the N GA Celt Fest Sunday, and I saw a few people I hadn't seen in a while, in particular one young woman I went to high school with. She hasn't been in country much since then. She seemed taller than I remember. Met her fiancee (who fits the same physical type as the guy she was with in high school). Met another friend's mother for the first time.

Saw some great music, and listened to some Lost Boys on CD (silly filkage)

Saw some interesting bumper stickers on the way up there and at the festival, including "Regime Change 2004" and "Pagan American" (a USA flag with a pentacle in place of the star field). In fact I was given the latter sticker by a man wearing the tshirt version. He gave me the web address, but it doesn't seem to work. I'll probably have to scan it.

School paper in next post, and then discussion thereof.

Out of curiosity, what would "causality is a fallacy" mean in that context?

Yes. I read through ProgStone, and have been trying to wrap my brain around various parts of Reciprocality ever since. Earlier entires in my LJ detail my attempts to read through the mailing list ... I seed those memes to prospective thinkers whenever I have a chance.

Linear time is a illusion created by humans to help us maintain the illusion of control over our lives. The idea that one event directly causes another following event is useful in law and finance but falls apart when you look at chaos theory, or Reciprocal Cosmology, and doesn't fare very well under Quantum Multiverse theory either. So the idea that "you actions" caused "my actions" is fallacious, which I hope means illogical in the formal sense. More common fallacies are the classsic ad hominem, ad baculum, appeal to authority, straw man .. et. al.

So how far have you gotten with the big R stuff? Are you an ADD kid who is now assured of biological superiority over the masses ;) ?

Cool.. I've been posting a lot on progstone for the last six months or so, upsetting the regulars somewhat - the two who've been there the longest really don't seem to like my PoV, despite the fact that AFAICT it's pretty much identical with Carter's.

Never diagnosed with ADD, but I've worked in IT and recognise exactly the patterns Carter describes in the PS - I think I can attribute my numerous, prolonged bouts with clinical depression to being a mapper in a packer's world.

Yes, I see what you mean about causality.. if you really want to blow people's minds try talking about the "backwards" (creative) causality - which pretty much involves trying to guess the "intention" of the universe. It's a particularly interesting topic given the current state of the world - trying to figure out what's around the corner. We do seem to be heading into a crisis point (crisis = danger + opportunity, according to the Chinese)

It's also good to meet another "Reciprocal missionary" .. I think it's a very important piece of work, and I spray links and references to around like confetti. Did you know Carter's written a book based on R, called The Third Age of the World (http://www.reciprocality.org/thirdage/)? He's yet to find a publisher, unfortunately..

Yeah .. I've not posted on progstone because I've never been able to catch up (not even 10% of it ..) I read the tail and realized I need to read a bunch of the old posts to even start to clue in to what they were going on about .. did read a few links about the Linux desktop accessiblity stuff he was hacking on. Does someone have an archive of the list in a real format. Trying to read on that ad-driven crap is tough.. I'd like to follow progstone, but I have 3K messages to slog through first. Maybe after my finals. ;)

I'll look (later) at the links you tossed me. A new book huh .. Sounds from the title like he may have caught the Singularity meme. The second title looks way over my head. I'm a beginning linguistic and know almost nothing about NLP, AI, etc. (I've only an Associates degree in Comp Sci .. I'm not sure how that compares with UK uni stuff.)

I think the singularity theme has always been there in R, just not highlighted so much. There are various musings as to what will happen when M0 breaks, and the religious stuff discusses how Christianity + Islam are designed as sort of two-part memetic bomb to blow the doors off the Matrix :)

Yeah, the Aoidoi paper was mostly too technical / wordy for me, but skimming through it I think I got the general gist: the idea that, at least in some languages, the phonemes used are not arbitrary, that they correspond to some fundamental patterns, either in the mind / brain or in the universe in general. Reminded me a bit of some stuff I've read about Kabbalah (http://www.psyche.com/), and also of Terence McKenna (http://deoxy.org/mckenna.htm)'s tykes (http://deoxy.org/timemind.htm).
